On Vacation - Niagara Falls

25 weeks, 2 days pregnant

This week Jorge and I are out of town. We are on our little Baby-moon in Canada! Jorge and I drove from Long Island, NY to Niagara Falls. Then we'll be visiting Toronto, Canada and then to Hyde Park, NY.

Niagara Falls has been great! A little chilly (especially compared to Florida weather) and a bit overcast, but it's been very nice! We stayed at a Hampton Inn not too far from the falls and when we got into town, we drove past the falls at night. They were all lit up! It was gorgeous!

The following morning we went to see the Falls... they were enormous! It's amazing how big they are! We took a tour on a boat called "The Maid of the Mist" and it takes you close to the falls. They gave us ponchos to wear, which is perfect because we were able to use them later in the day when it got rainy.

We also went on a tour that took us behind the falls, to some tunnels where you can see the falls from behind going past right in front of you!

Our last tour was a 4D video of how the Niagara was formed and the history behind it. Here are some fascinating facts!

•Over 12,000 years ago, Niagara Falls extended seven miles down river at what is now Lewiston, New York and Queenston, Ontario. Over the years, the brink has eroded to its present site. The erosion is controlled and where it would once erode 10 feet per year, it now only erodes 1 foot every 10 years.

•In 1869, a 63-year-old school teacher was the first person to survive going over the falls. She did it in an oak barrel.

•In the "Miracle at Niagara," Roger Woodward, a seven-year-old American boy, was swept over the Horseshoe Falls protected only by a life vest on July 9, 1960, as two tourists pulled his 17-year-old sister Deanne from the river only 20 feet from the lip of the Horseshoe Falls at Goat Island. Minutes later, Woodward was plucked from the roiling plunge pool beneath the Horseshoe Falls after grabbing a life ring thrown to him by the crew of the Maid of the Mist boat.

•In March of 1848, the waters stopped flowing over Niagara's famous cliff when the Niagara River was plugged temporarily at the mouth of the river in Fort Erie, Ontario.

Baby Shower Invite: Coworker Shower

25 weeks, 2 days pregnant

My wonderful coworkers are having a shower for me & Baby G and I'm so excited! Beth and Sara are working on it and they've been so wonderful! Sara designed the invitations and I got to see them on Wednesday! Sooooo cute! I love them!

Later I found out that Sara was able to print them from work and my boss and a few other coworkers conspired to keep me distracted so I wouldn't notice. LOL! So thoughtful!

Thoughtful Gifts From Karina!

25 weeks, 1 day pregnant

I just have to send a big thank you to Karina for the thoughtful gifts she sent! She mailed me these adorable outfits that her little 3 month old already grew out of. Plus she sent me a bunch of maternity clothes! It was perfect timing -- I barely fit into anything these days!! It was so thoughtful of her! :)

How cute are these little onesies??

Baby This Week: 25 weeks

Head to heels, your baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches. Her weight — a pound and a half — isn't much more than an average rutabaga, but she's beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat. As she does, her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she'll start to look more and more like a newborn. She's also growing more hair — and if you could see it, you'd now be able to discern its color and texture.

Baby Shower Invites

23 weeks, 6 days pregnant

Here's a preview of the Baby Shower Invitations I made! (For security reasons, I omitted the addresses.)

One is for the baby shower my sister Cindy is throwing me. It's nesting themed and has a little bird at the bottom, with the little nest at the top -- there will even be a little sign that says "About to Hatch." Everything will be bird and egg related! So excited!

And the other is for the shower my family is throwing me the following week. This one will be teddy bear themed. I was hoping to get pink gummy bears (my favorite!) for the favors, but it doesn't seem like they sell them only in pink. Oh well - I'm using pink and brown m&m's so it'll still be cute!

Can you tell I love the pink and brown combination? LOL! It's the same color scheme I had for my wedding!

My good friend Beth is also throwing me a shower with my coworkers, and one of the other designers on my team, Sara, is working on the invites... I haven't seen them yet, but I know they're going to look great! :)

I'm so excited for my showers!! YAY!!! :)

Baby This Week: 24 weeks

Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts her at just over a pound. Since she's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), she cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but her body is filling out proportionally and she'll soon start to plump up. Her brain is also growing quickly now, and her taste buds are continuing to develop. Her lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help her air sacs inflate once she hits the outside world. Her skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

First Registry Gift! From Grammy!

23 weeks, 4 days pregnant

Last week, Jorge and I received our first gift from our registry! It was from Jorge's mom, aka "Grammy"! It's a musical carseat arch that hangs from the carseat handle or from the stroller. It has bright colors and when you press the toy in the middle it plays a cute little tune. Adorable!! I put it up to my tummy so Baby G could hear! I think she liked it! ;) Thanks, Mrs. G!!!

Visit From the Quintanas

23 weeks, 3 days pregnant

Our good friends, Jorge and Amanda Quintana and their adorable daughter Caitlyn were in town today from Tennessee! The last time we saw Caitlyn she was about 9 months old... now she's 3! She's the cutest thing ever! She kept saying the most random things... "My hands are under the blanket. My hands are scared." Bahahahahahaha! Oh she cracked me up! :) I can't wait till we have our little one! :)

Seems like we're going through a growth spurt -- she's more and more active every week! :)

I swear, just when I think to myself, "Hmmm... I don't think I've grown much since last week..." I take a look and compare my tummy to the week before! My goodness how we've grown!

Baby This Week: 23 weeks

Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that she's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze her when she hears them outside the womb.

Update on Me & Baby G

22 weeks, 6 days pregant

I'm doing pretty well these days. Definitely doing much better now regarding the nausea and morning sickness. I haven't gotten sick in three weeks -- this is an all-time record! Such a relief! I actually feel like I have the energy to do things on my To-Do List now, so I'm also feeling productive.

I'm 23 weeks now and I'm feeling really big! I wonder how it's possible I'm going to get any bigger? My belly button has really stretched out and it's practically closed now... it looks like it's winking at me, LOL! I'm loving this trimester, not only because I feel like I have more energy and I'm no longer nauseous 24/7 but I can feel Baby G moving around all day! Sometimes she kinda gets in a weird spot that is somewhere under my ribs (or maybe she's up against an organ or something that gets pushed under my ribs?) and it's kinda uncomforatble. But for the most part she's nudging and poking and rolling around in there-- I love it! I feel her move usually after I eat and then sit still on the couch or sit at work. She also kicks late at night and early in the morning (already keeping mommy up!) Jorge feels her move pretty frequently and he talks to her and tells her random things we did that day (ie: "Today, mommy had apple pie and we went for a walk. I bought some shelving for our storage closet that we're remodeling so we can put all your stuff!" hahaha, cracks me up!) ... sometimes he even sings her a song. :) It's soooo sweet! We definitely feel like the pregnancy is more real now, although we still can't believe we're going to be parents!!

My appetite has definitely grown -- I'm craving lots of sweets: cake, ice-cream, apple pie.... mmmmmmmmm. I've gained now 6 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight (and also regained the 6 pounds I lost due to the nausea!) Sleeping has gotten better, especially since I got the Snoogle pillow. It's a giant body pillow that curves so you can put it between your knees... it's really great although it does make the bed seem a bit crowded, LOL! I still wake up with some back pain though and I feel sore sometimes. But at least I'm sleeping through the night. I'm trying to treasure it while I still can!

As far as our nursery goes, it isn't a nursery yet. It's still currently our guest room/office. We are planning on moving furniture out and Jorge is remodeling our storage closet so we have room to move things out to. He's doing a really great job. We have tons more space now! We're planning on painting the room a neutral color, like maybe taupe and then having pink accents. It looks good in my head, I'm hoping it'll look as good in real life! But the baby's closet sure has made some progress -- it seems to be growing every week with all the cute outfits we're getting from our friends and family! It's so inspiring to see all the little baby clothes!

Our birthing classes will be starting in a few weeks. I signed Jorge and I up for the Bradley classes and I'm really looking forward to them! The classes are more in-depth than the ones the hospital offers and seem more complete. We'll be starting classes at the end of the month and they'll be once a week for 12 weeks. I've also contacted a doula that I'm looking forward to interviewing. She'll be there to basically hold my hand and be my coach (along with Jorge) during the birth. I'm very apprehensive about the birth and it's very reassuring to know I have someone experienced there to reassure me! She sounded very nice over the phone and I can't wait to meet her.

We have quite a few baby showers coming up in October! We planned them a little early around my 7th month so as to avoid the craziness that is the holidays. My sister Cindy is throwing me one for our friends on October 11th, my friend Beth is throwing me one for my coworkers on October 17th, and my family is throwing me one on October 18th. I'm so excited!! I'm a little too involved in the showers my sister and my family are throwing me -- as a graphic designer I just HAD to design the invites and the tags for the favors. I just mailed out everything this week! It's been quite a bit of work, but I'm glad they'll all be seperate showers, so that way they'll be smaller and I'll get time to spend with everyone. It'll be a busy month-- but I'm so excited to see everyone! I know a lot of my family has yet to see me with my growing belly. I'll post pictures of the invites soon!

We're still deciding on a name for her but I think we've pretty much narrowed it down to a few. Everyone keeps asking what her name will be, but we want to wait until she's here to introduce her. I'm so looking forward to that day!!! Three and a half months to go! :)

Gaby & Reuben In Town From Dubai

21 weeks, 1 day pregnant

Our good friends Gaby and Reuben were in town from Dubai!! I haven't seen Gaby since late last year and Reuben hasn't been back in the states for 2 years. We've missed them! They were only in town for a day on a layover, so we met with Mily and her kids and Gaby's aunt and uncle at P.F. Changs for dinner on Wednesday. Gaby was so excited to see my bump!

They spent the night at our place and then we hung out with them Thursday during the day until their flight in the early afternoon. We went with them to Lissette's house (she just gave birth to Carlos Mauricio 6 weeks ago!) to visit her new baby. What a cutie! Then we dropped off Gaby and Reuben at the airport. Reuben will be stopping through again on his return trip at the end of the month and Gaby will be back in October in time for the baby shower. They are our closest friends -- Jorge and Reuben have known each other since grade school and Gaby and I met in college. It is through them that Jorge and I met! :)

They brought these sweet gifts for Baby G!

Cute onsies!

Sockies!!!

And this adorabe Hello Kitty bib! Love it!

Baby This Week: 22 weeks

At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. Her lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and she's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath her gums. Her eyes have formed, but her irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment.
If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers her body and the deep wrinkles on her skin, which she'll sport until she adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside her belly, her pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.

Over the weekend Jorge and I received an unexpected package from Jorge's mom, (aka "Grammy!") with these ADORABLE baby outfits!!! I swear, I melted when I saw them! They are absolutely precious!!!!!

This little sweater is so beautiful -- so delicate!

I love this pink outfit, I can totally see Baby G in this!

And she also sent these very stylish Baby Guess onsies! They feature the Guess logo "G" ... which also looks like it stands for Baby G! Haha! Love it!!

The gifts were so very thoughtful! Thank you Mrs. G! :)

Weekend in Orlando

21 weeks, 2 days pregnant

On Thursday night, Cathy and I drove up to Orlando for a Photoshop seminar on Friday. We stayed with our wonderful friends Gaby and Fed. Their home is so nice! They have an adorable crab theme throughout the house. They crack me up!

On Friday, Cathy and I went to the seminar -- it was fantastic! The trainer was Scott Kelby -- a graphic design genius! He was very thorough and had a great sense of humor. We had a great time. Even Baby G seemed to like it. She was so active, moving and jabbing! Even Cathy got to feel it! She swears it was Baby G giving her a high-five, LOL!

After the seminar, we met with Gaby at one of my favorite restaurants, Cafe Tutu Tangos. They make excellent empanadas!

That night we were in for a surprise though-- the space shuttle launched at midnight and we got to see it from Gaby & Fed's place! What an amazing sight!! Apparently, night launches are very rare. What a treat! Watch the space shuttle launch here.

Today, before heading home, Cathy and I went shopping at the Prime Outlet Mall and I bought a cute outfit for Baby G. Jorge and I had seen it before and had been considering it as our "bringing baby home" outfit, but we hadn't yet decided. But when I saw it on sale for 50% off, I had to get it! Look at the little feet on the pijamas!! Aren't those bears the cutest??

While I was away, Jorge stayed home and worked on the apartment. We're trying to figure out a new configuration for the storage closet so we have more room. He's doing such an amazing job! I know it's time consuming and frustrating. He can stare at the closet for hours trying to figure it out. But he's come up with a plan and it's really coming together! I'll post pictures when he's done! It's coming out great!!

Baby This Week: 21 weeks

Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now.
