Happy Thanksgiving... Part 1

34 weeks pregnant

These last few days have been a bit rough. On Saturday night I started feeling a dry and scratchy throat, which I thought was my allergies. But it turned into a terrible sore throat that lasted all the way until Monday. I even had to call in sick on Monday. Tuesday I already had a doctor's appointment scheduled so I waited until then to get it checked out - but of course I was already feeling better. (Doesn't it always happen that way?) She did a throat culture just in case and just told me to continue to get some rest. I figured that I was already getting better. But yesterday I started getting a runny nose and now today I'm all congested and I'm convinced I have a full-blown cold. :( ARGGG!!! I've been doing everything to make sure I don't get sick - I stay away from people, I wipe everything with disinfecting wipes, I use a napkin to touch doors or knobs or elevator buttons... I'm being extra careful! After careful consideration and lots of research, Jorge and I had decided it was best that I didn't take the flu shot or the H1N1 shot. (Mostly because I've never had the flu shot before and I don't know how I'd react to it. Last thing I want to do is experiment while I'm pregnant. And the H1N1 just seems too new of a vaccine and I don't trust it.)So especially since we decided not to vaccinate, we've been even more cautious then ever and I still caught a cold! It's frustrating because since I'm pregnant I can't take any medicine for it so I'm just eating a lot of fruit and lentils which are high in Vitamin C to help me get through it.

Since today is Thanksgiving, my family celebrates it every year at my grandmother's house. I considered not going if I didn't feel well, but by the end of the day I was feeling a bit better and we decided to go. What surprised me is that the hour-long drive down to Miami never bothers me, but now, at 8 months pregnant, it was soooo uncomfortable! Baby G was in my ribs the whole way down (which hurts really bad!) and my back and my pelvis were so sore by the time we got there!

I did enjoy seeing everyone and it was nice to see my grandmother and my mom and my cousins. Thanksgiving dinner was delicious - thankfully, despite the congestion, I could still taste it! Jorge and I enjoyed the company, the amazing food and then helped with clean up and then left at 8:30. We usually stay later, but the drive home is an hour and by then I'd be dead tired!

I was really happy we went down to see my family, but Jorge and I were talking about it on the way home - we don't think we'll be able to go down for Christmas. I really hate to miss Christmas because it's the most important holiday to my family, but I really think it's the best decision. Aside from the fact that it's a long drive for me and Baby G, at Christmas I'll be 38 weeks pregnant - only 2 weeks away from giving birth! And Miami is 2 hours away from the hospital we've decided to give birth at (in Boca Raton), so it wouldn't make sense do drive all the way down south and risk it. What if I went into labor early??!! We'll still have our mini-Christmas get together the next day at our place with Blanca, my mom and my dad though, so we'll still get to see them and celebrate. I'll miss my family but at the same time a nice, quiet holiday will be good too. I'm feeling so big that it's exhausting and I don't have a lot of energy for a big party. But we'll make the most out of it! And when Baby G gets here, I'm certain we'll be seeing my family again real soon!! :)

Here are a few pictures from Thanksgiving! A special thanks to my mom and my grandmother for preparing such a fantastic meal! We love you! Everything was delicious!
