SF Giants Win the World Series!

So for the last few weeks, Jorge has sucked me into baseball. His team, the San Francisco Giants, won the National League Championship and were headed to the World Series.

In 2002 the Giants made it to the World Series, but lost…. Jorge talks of that game with such heartache.

So now it's been 52 years in their San Francisco history and they've never won the World Series. Jorge was ecstatic that they at least made it to the Series, but didn't have high hopes that they'd win. It was really just unbelievable that they made it this far…

After Mila went to bed,  Jorge and I would watch the games together. He would give me the back story on the players and it really became so interesting that I really looked forward to the games -- which is saying a lot, because (to Jorge's dismay) I'm not into sports. But he was so into it and knew so much about the players, that I felt like I got to know the team and I followed it almost like they were characters in a movie: a wonderful underdog story of a bunch of players put together mid-season, an amazing 23 year old rookie catcher Buster Posey, a World Series veteran Edgar Renteria, the "Panda" Sandoval (cuz he looks like the Kung Fu Panda, LOL!), an outstanding starting pitcher Tim Lincecum, the amazing batter Uribe that hit several home runs during the games, Aubrey Huff that has been in the Major Leagues for about 10 years and never been to the World Series, second baser Sanchez with an killer arm, Cody Ross who was let go from the Florida Marlins mid-season and wasn't sure if he'd be on a team this year (who ended up being MVP!)…. and my favorite, Brian "the Beard" Wilson -- the closing pitcher that did a stellar job saving the games when it was down to the wire. The team was called the "dirty dozen," "the misfits" because most of them weren't on the team just a few months ago! I swear, just like a movie! I enjoyed watching it, except for the part Jorge agonized over it, afraid to get his hopes up… LOL!

Anyway, the Giants were up to play against the Texas Rangers in the World Series and had to win 4 of the 7 games…. and in game 5 we cinched it and WON! THE GIANTS WIN THE WORLD SERIES!!!

WOOO-HOOOOOOOO!!!! We couldn't believe it! …Jorge is still in shock!

I am just beyond thrilled they won and the torture of listening to Jorge stress over the season is over, LOL! Now if only the 49ers could get their act together… can Lincecum play quarterback?
